Quest Soccer is emptying its warehouse of surplus soccer balls, shorts, shirts, and uniforms to be readied for shipment to Haiti. "We are asking all members especially within the South Florida soccer community to reach out and lend assistance to these desperate souls in Haiti who were ravaged by this terrible eartquake." said Jason Aquila, Quest Soccer's co-director and founder. "Food, water, medicine, diapers, and shelter items are paramount for these people and we will be contributing what we can. We are in the soccer business so logically we are going to send our largest asset, which is soccer items but we ask all of the club, high school, retailers, and recreational soccer players and teams to dig a little further and assist Haiti with those paramount items in this time of need." said Aquila. "We want this message to go even further than South Florida, we know this blog is read in over 45 countries, so if you read this please pass this information along-these people need our help now!"

Several South Florida-based groups are seeking donations to purchase food and building supplies to help victims of the earthquake in Haiti, which has killed more than 42,000 people and the number is rising.

Among them:

• Catholic Charities of Miami wants to provide monetary assistance. Checks may be made payable to Catholic Charities of Miami with a notation in the memo line designating the donation for "Earthquake Victims Haiti" and mailed to: Catholic Charities, Eartquake Aid, 9401 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami Shores, FL 33138. Donations can be made online via a secure internet site by accessing http://www.ccadm.org clicking on Donate Now, followed by designating the amount to be contributed and the donation option.

• Cross International, a Christian aid organization, is seeking to bring food. To provide donations call 1-800-391-8545 or visit www.crossinternational.org and click on the emergency hurricane support link.

• Food for the Poor, an international and development organization based in Coconut Creek, is asking for donations to purchase additional building materials for repairs to homes. Call 1-800-487-1158.

• Lambi Fund of Haiti is accepting donations after many of the people it assists. To support the sustainable development efforts of Lambi Fund of Haiti, visit LambiFund.org to make an online donation or mail a check to Lambi Fund of Haiti, PO Box 18955, Washington, DC 20036.

Quest Soccer Camp in Plametto Bay has aligned a partnership with Camp Westminster . The mutual agreement between Quest Soccer and Wetminster Camp solidifies an already existing long standing and harmonious relationship between Westminster Christian school and Quest Soccer. "For 9 years Quest Soccer has been in partnership with Westminster in the usage of the facilities and in place equipment, it was a logical step to put all the marketing and promotion of Quest Soccer at Palmetto Bay within one business environment." said Jason Aquila director of Quest Soccer. "It provides base line continuity."

Quest Soccer at Palmetto Bay will launch in 2009 in the month of July rather than their normal June dates. This year Quest Soccer at Palmetto Bay will be conducted from July 13 to July 17th. "We'll be able to maximize the resources of the campus almost exclusively with these new dates." said Aquila. "Our normal outdoor program will run as always but the option of indoor soccer will be there too."

Alec Spivak has a definite love and passion for the game of soccer. Alec has just finished her first term as a Quest Soccer Camp Instructor Aide. Quest Soccer Camp Director Mike Hearns was Alec's first Soccer Coach when she was only 7 years old. Alec attended the Quest Soccer Camp as a camper for many years. The Quest Soccer Camp has always strived to promote from within and when Alec became of age she was quickly offered the opportunity to transition from camper to Quest Soccer Camp Instructor Aide.
Alec currently plays club soccer for the Kendall Soccer Coalition, and as a freshman was a starting midfielder for the always strong Miami Palmetto Senior High Women's soccer team.

The Quest Soccer Camp at Ft. Pierce has successfully completed their inaugural week at Ft. Pierce and Quest Soccer Camp is now poised to move on to their next soccer camps at Virginia Gardens, Kendall, and Port St. Lucie.

Ron Basile who served as Quest Soccer camp Coordinator in Ft. Pierce will be bringing his winning ways and his competent staff later in the summer to Quest Soccer in Port St. Lucie. Jason Aquila the Quest Soccer Camp Director noted that "Ron Basile has such a knowledge for the game and he really communicates great soccer through action as well as speech to the players. We feel very fortunate to have Coach Ron on staff with us and are equally looking forward to what he can do in Port St. Lucie."

Tim Shea will be on his game also as he brings the Quest Soccer Camp to Virginia Gardens Florida for it's third year in a row. Tim serves as the Camp coordinator fro Quest Soccer at Virginia Gardens and his hometown roots and coaching ability have been a big part of the community's continued soccer success. Former Southern Connecticut State University Men's Soccer All-American Ron Basile led the young soccer players on the field at St. Anastasia School in Ft. Pierce, for the inaugural Quest Soccer Camp at Ft. Pierce. Ron is Quest Soccer's camp coordinatorr for Ft. Pierce and along with Quest Soccer Directors Jason Aquila and Mike Hearns started the first Quest Soccer camp in St. Lucie County. Goalkeeper sensation Cliff Wisdom was also on hand and will be assisting Coach Ron throughout the week long camp. Coach Ron intends to maintain the high standards of Quest Soccer and also promises to blend his coaching style, playing experience, and soccer knowledge to the attendees. Quest Soccer has completed their 2008 Palmetto Bay Soccer Camp and now move north along I-95 to begin their inaugural soccer camp opening at Ft. Pierce. The Quest Soccer Camp at Ft. Pierce begins June 23rd through June 27th. Quest Soccer Camp coordinator Ron Basile will be running the Quest Soccer Camp at Ft. Pierce. when asked about the Quest Soccer Camp at Ft. Pierce, Quest Soccer Director Jason Aquila stated: "When you have a talent like Ron Basile on staff you know that the quality of soccer instruction is going to be incredible. It's the perfect trifecta. The Quest Soccer Camp held in Miami's Palmetto Bay has decided to alleviate the strain of these tough economic times and is returning to 2006 prices. Citing the rising cost of fuel, and other staples Quest Soccer Director Jason Aquila has decided that he doesn't want to see people squeezed at each and every turn.
"Like everyone else we at Quest Soccer Camp here in Palmetto Bay are feeling the crunch but we have been able to put some market factors behind us and we want to pass those savings on to our players and their families." said Aquila.
"By no stretch of the imagination will it be easy but hopefully if we can tighten our belt and give these good families a break someone else will too."

Quest Soccer reminds everyone that proper soccer ball care is the key to a healthy and happy soccer camp experience

As with any product that you buy, taking good care of your soccer ball will prolong it's life.
There is nothing complicated about taking care of a soccer ball. Just use common sense.
Do not stand or sit on your soccer balls. Do not kick your good match soccer balls excessively hard against a wall. They can become warped and your ball will wobble when kicked.

Buy a good quality ball and take good care of it. Your soccer balls will then have a long life.

Cleaning

Remove excessive dirt from the ball after use. Use a damp cloth to wipe the ball clean. If needed, use some mild soap or some type of synthetic leather cleaner to remove excessive dirt or stains from the ball. Be careful when using detergents to clean the ball. Never use harsh detergents. Outer coverings and stitching on some balls may be adversely affected by concentrated cleaners. Refrain from excessively spraying soccer balls with high pressure water spay. Water may penetrate into the ball.

Playing Surface

Play on turf, grass or smooth surfaces . Rough surfaces such as gravel, asphalt or concrete can be very abusive to a typical soccer ball. Premature excessive wear and cuts on the outer cover will occur due to abrasion when the ball bounces or skips across rough surfaces.

Use Proper Air Pressure

Do not over or under pressurize a ball. Use the manufactures recommended air pressure that is printed on most balls. Most soccer balls have a pressure rating of 6 to 8 lbs. or 0.6 or 0.8 BAR. It is recommended that you use a pressure gauge to measure the exact amount of pressure in a ball after inflating and before use.

BAR or PSI or LBS?

Some soccer balls have recommended pressure values indicated in BAR while others have the values indicated in PSI or LBS. To convert the pressure values, use the following formulas:

To convert BAR (KGS) to PSI (Lbs.):

Answer = 14.5037 X The amount of BAR(KGS)

For example: A soccer ball has a recommended pressure of 0.6 BAR labeled on it. To convert BAR in Pounds Per Square Inch (PSI), multiply 0.6 times 14.5037. The answer is 8.7 PSI or Lbs.

To convert PSI (Lbs.) to BAR(KGS):

Answer = .068948 X The amount of PSI(Lbs.)

For example: A soccer ball has a recommended pressure of 7.9 Lbs. (PSI) labeled on it. To convert Pounds Per Square Inch (PSI) into BAR, multiply 7.9 times .068948. The answer is 0.545 BAR.

Inflating a Soccer Ball

Soccer balls lose air pressure over time. Sometimes over a few days (soccer balls that use butyl bladders keep air pressure longer than balls that use latex bladders). Be sure to check the pressure frequently to make sure the ball is properly inflated. Therefore, invest in a good ball pump, have a supply of inflation needles and use a low pressure gauge to measure for proper inflation.

Before you first inflate a soccer ball, place a couple drops of silicone oil or silicone lubricant spray or glycerin oil into the valve. You can purchase one of the oils or spray at your local hardware store. Using one of the lubricants will improve the life of the valve and lubricate the valve for easy insertion of the inflation needle.

Always moisten the inflation needle before you insert it into the valve. Preferably, use some silicon oil to moisten the needle.
Manufacturers recommend that you reduce the air pressure in your match balls after a game to reduce the amount of stress on the ball seams or stitching. Be sure to inflate the ball back to proper pressure before the match.

Florida Soccer Scene Now (FSSN) How exactly was it that Ron Basile became a part of Quest Soccer Camps?
Quest Soccer Camp Director Jason Aquila (JA) "Myself and Mike Hearns are both the founders and directors of the Quest Soccer Camp. Mike and Ron were teammates at Southern Connecticut State University from 1980 on to 1984. Southern Connecticut State University has a stellar reputation that has gone on for nearly 30 years continuously. It is a great college soccer program. The list of Southern Connecticut players, and players who are now coaches, is beyond impressive. Now with Ron rejoining up with Mike, we feel that the Quest Soccer Camps just took a quantum leap."
FSSN: Can you elaborate more about these teammates of Mike and Ron Basile?
JA: "Its overwhelming. Almost too hard to document. University of Connecticut Head Men's Soccer Coach Ray Reid, as well as assistant coach John Deeley. The University of Bridgeport Head Men's Soccer Coach Brian Quinn, Fairfield University Women's Head Soccer Coach Jim O'Brien, The Citadel Women's Head Soccer Coach Bob Winch, Former MLS champions The Kansas City Wizards Coach Brian Bliss , I truly lose track sometimes. Mike or Ron should probably be answering this question because they know more than I but from the top of my head those names come to mind.
FSSN: How did Ron Basile become a part of Quest Soccer Camps?
JA: "Ron was looking to further his already notable soccer experiences in the soccer camp world and he contacted Mike and here we are about to embark on a dual trip of talent and expansion.
FSSN: What can you tell us about Ron Basile?
JA: Ron Basile is still the all time leading scorer at Southern Connecticut State University, that's a record that has held for over 25 years. When you think of all the national tournaments and national championships won by that program, coupled with the players who have come out of that program, advancements in shoe design, turf technology, nutrition information, strength and conditioning advances, and so on it is amazing that he scored as many goals as he did and how it has stood the test of time. Ron played professionally in Belgium as well as Haiti and was a continual All New England, All American, and All Region player. He was selected for the then named "Iron Horse Award" which is awarded to the best high school player in New York.
FSSN: What do you see in the future for Quest Soccer Camps?
JA: "In the short run we foresee continual expansion, but we also see in the long run that expansion to be moderated and directed by our outstanding staff like Tim Shea, Donna Holyman, and now Ron Basile. Innovative, quality fused soccer mixed with fun and educational approaches to the world's game with some of the best current and former players we can get."
FSSN: Sounds like you have a winning combination
JA:"In more ways than one."

Ron is also currently the assistant coach of the Jensen Beach Boys High School Soccer Team. Ron Basile has an extensive soccer legacy and the Quest Soccer Camp looks forward to having Ron on board. Each Quest Soccer Camp instructor has an assigned insulated mobile beverage cooler which they wheel out their field for each session. Your child's water bottle can be stored in the cold iced confines of the cooler and readily available. The Quest Soccer Camp also provides hydration breaks, water fountains on premises, and at the Quest Soccer Palmetto Bay Camp campers are encouraged to use the invigorating swimming pool during the swim session. The Quest Soccer Camp receives constant inquiries from soccer coaches and players about working at one of the Quest Soccer Camps. The process is relatively easy. High School age players are signed on as instructor aides, while college players as well as those out of college are signed on as instructors. A detailed resume of your soccer and work experience needs to be submitted via online or regular U.S mail. Please label your email "Quest Soccer Applicant" to avoid any spam file mishaps. A Background Investigation by Pebi Services will be conducted on college or older applicants. The Quest Soccer Camps are always looking for qualified, good natured instructors, counselors, aides, and assistants. The Quest Soccer Camp once again will be held at the recreation field located in the Village of Virginia Gardens. The Quest Soccer Camp at Virginia Gardens (Quest VG) plans to bring the same high quality soccer instruction from years past. Quest soccer staff members Mike Hearns, A.J Diaz,Chris Deno and Tim Shea all learned to play the game of soccer as children at the Virginia Gardens recreation field. "It's all coming full circle. " said Quest Soccer Camp Coordinator Tim Shea. "Mike and I were teammates in the 80's, he was A.J's first soccer coach when A.J was 9 years old, I taught Chris and now we've all worked and taught for Quest Soccer. Both Chris and A.J Diaz went on to be All Dade County Soccer Team members, Chris has been on a National Junior College Athletic Association Division 1 Championship team, while A.J went on to be the field goal kicker for the University of Alabama football team. Donna Holyman is a driving factor in the success of Quest Soccer Camps

Donna Holyman is a driving factor in the success of the Quest Soccer Camp Program. Donna brings great collegiate playing experience, coaching experience, and national team experience to the Quest Soccer Camp. Donna recently served as an assistant coach at The University of South Florida Women's Soccer Team, and prior to that was an assistant women's soccer team coach at Barry University, working with all aspects of the program including recruiting, planning practices and games, and NCAA compliance.
She spent six years as an assistant coach at the University of Kansas (KU). She was primarily responsible for all aspects of recruiting for the KU soccer program. She was instrumental in bringing highly-regarded incoming classes to Kansas.
A top player at both Hartford and Colorado as a collegian from 1994-97, she started all 74 games of her career, scoring 27 goals with 17 assists. She led the Hawks to back-to-back North Atlantic Conference titles and consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances before transferring to Colorado as a senior. In her one season in Boulder, she paced the Buffaloes with six goals and four assists in 18 games that season.
In addition, her playing experience included stints with the Under-20 Canadian Women’s National Team and the U-23 Ontario Team which competed in the 1993 World University Games.
Away from the collegiate coaching scene, Holyman was also the head coach of the Plantation Eagles U-18 girls’ soccer team for two seasons in Florida and for six years was an assistant coach for the U-14 and U-18 Olympic Development Program in Overland Park, Kansas. Donna is a native of Burlington, Ontario, and she received her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Colorado in 1998. She earned her master’s in education (sports administration) at KU in 2004. Holyman has her “B” license from the United State Soccer Federation.

Quest Net Assault camper Ceci Colon scores 37 goals enroute to her selection to the 2008 Miami Herald All Dade Women's Soccer Team

Ceci Colon, a previous Quest Soccer Camp attendee, and a Quest Net Assault attendee has been named to the 2008 Miami Herald All Dade County Women's Soccer team. Ceci a sophomore at Miami's Westminster Christian School had 37 goals and 22 assists for the lady warriors. Quest Net Assault Coach Tim Shea saw a huge rise in Ceci's goal scoring ability based on her performance at the Quest Net Assault Camp. "What I saw in Ceci was a rapid awareness and connectivity to her, and her relationship to the goal. Ceci developed a quick and decisive mindset coupled with the technical and tactical advantages we gave her." Ceci not only attended the Quest Net Assault Camp but she is also a Quest Soccer Camp alumni and current staff member. Jason Aquila the Director of the Quest Soccer Camp stated that "Fundamentally Ceci is one of the best in the county and destined for even bigger numbers. Her participation in the Quest Net Assault Camp not only dramatically improved her game but elevated her into the top scoring rankings of Dade County. Even as a sophomore she has caught the eye of plenty of college coaches."
The Quest Soccer Camp has had on staff 11 Miami Herald All Dade County Soccer team members.
